Overhere, we are using the common cathode 4 digit 7 segment display. Vcc 5V. I kept on burning one of the first 4-5 LED of the project, and it was due to very fast load on the MCU (attiny85) and not fast enough on the power line. They work perfectly with the matrices we stock from Adafruit and make adding a bright little display trivial.
