Jun 18, 2020 #1 I have a subwoofer that pops when not receiving a signal. A pop noise is frequently heard when the gain setting on an amplifier is set too high. The speaker wires are too close to the power and ground wires. The popping noise occurs as the amplifier tries to produce more voltage than it can to meet the demands of the subwoofer. Answer: A subwoofer should not be making any type of noise when the amplifier turns on.
